Hi guys. This is Zak from Shmaltz Brewing, the makers of the Coney Island Lager. Thanks a lot for grabbing our beer from BevMo, and especially for taking the time to film the review. I thought, in a lot of ways, you guys were right on.

    A few thoughts for you.
    – Sounds like you got an old bottle. That beer should have good carbonation, especially as a lager. Since BevMo has so many beers, some stores just take way longer than we’d like to sell through. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you were to try it on tap (I see you guys live in San Diego…Small Bar will be pouring 5 of our beers on Wednesday, August 31st…would be great if you made it over to try the Lager plus more).
    – Honey. Right on. I totally get that too. It’s actually one of my favorite flavor characteristics.
    – Comparing to IPAs. I agree that it’s hard (and maybe a bit unfair) to try to compare completely different beers against each other. Lagers are not a hot style with craft ale drinkers and I think it’s important to remember that they’re meant to serve different moods/palates/preferences. Whether we successfully accomplish it or not, we’re trying to create interesting and innovative lagers that a craft ale drinker will want to drink (when he/she’s in the mood), not a “training wheels” beer for non-craft beer drinkers.

You guys are doing a great job. Thanks again for the feedback and looking forward to future reviews.

I appreciate your comment. I will just chalk it up to a funky beer from bevmo. Im sure it just went flat or something. No worries. We are really excited to get some more of your creations and give them a go. Might have to go check out Small Bar this Wed though sooo good call.
